The 2022/23 Premier League season at Leeds United was a very interesting one.
After narrowly surviving relegation in the final weeks, the club decided to continue with Jesse Marsch. The American replaced Marcelo Bielsa in February and guided the club to safety.
Leeds United backed Marsch in the transfer window during the summer. The club spent over €80million on first team signings. Max Wöber, Tyler Adams, Rasmus Kristensen and Brenden Aaronson all arrived at the club for huge fees. Most of the signings that summer were former Red Bull players, and Marsch himself was a former Red Bull Salzburg coach.
Unfortunately for the American, he was sacked after a run of poor results. Leeds United were relegated that season despite trying to save their campaign, hiring Sam Allardyce. That summer, a whole host of players left the club using relegation release clauses, others also left on loan.

Last year, Tyler Adams was strongly linked to Chelsea and almost signed for the Premier League club. The midfielder was part of a group of players at the club who had relegation clauses in their Leeds United contracts.
Adams was set to have a medical at Chelsea, but a move never materialized and he eventually moved to Bournemouth. Former Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino explained what happened that summer:
“We know very well we need to look after him [Adams], to have [him] in the best condition for 2026 [World Cup].” He said to GOAL.
“I know him very well because I think it’s public that we wanted to sign him in Chelsea. When we arrived in Chelsea, I remember that in USA, in Chicago, we had a conversation.
“We knew and after, the club didn’t sign him because he was injured. That is why, in the end, we cannot but we already know and we know how important but we need to provide the good platform for him to get [to] his best.”
Adams has only featured in six Premier League games since he joined Bournemouth. His injury issues have kept him out for most of the time he has been at the club.
What if Chelsea had signed Tyler Adams?
With the Premier League club splashing the cash on young players during that transfer window, Leeds United would have certainly got more than the £24million they eventually sold Adams for.
Since Adams left Leeds have signed a good group of midfielders including Ethan Ampadu and Illia Gruev, who will be the future of the club.
