Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier made the costly mistake that led to Sunderland tying contest in the second half stoppage after he misplayed the ball. Nonetheless, a report reveals manager Daniel Farke’s verdict on the Frenchman.

Chris Rigg got the home side off to a great start with a goal in the ninth minute, making it 1-0. But the Whites quickly hit back, with Joël Piroe scoring the equalizer in the 22nd minute.

The teams went into halftime level at 1-1. Leeds regained the lead in the 56th minute when Junior Firpo found the net, putting them in a strong position to secure the win. However, the match took a dramatic turn in stoppage time. A costly error by goalkeeper Illan Meslier allowed Sunderland to equalize.

Alan Browne’s cross deflected off Firpo’s head, and as Meslier attempted to gather the ball, it slipped through his fingers and into the net, handing Sunderland a crucial point.

Will Daniel Farke make a change at the goalkeeper position?

Following an inexcusable error, many Leeds supporters called for a change in the goalkeeper position. However, the German tactician doesn’t appear to be listening to supporters to make any changes.

Football Insider reports that Leeds have no intention of replacing Illan Meslier following his mistake against Sunderland.

While the Whites have Karl Darlow as their backup goalkeeper, they are committed to sticking with Meslier, valuing his experience and skill. Meslier is expected to start the first match after the international break as the club looks to give him their full support.

The decision reflects their belief that he shouldn’t be judged solely on one error, ensuring he remains the first-choice goalkeeper for the foreseeable future. Since joining the club, the Frenchman has made 184 appearances and kept 56 clean sheets.

Leeds must regroup and return strong after the break. They have a crucial match against promotion rivals Sheffield United at Elland Road on October 18. The Whites recently drew with Sunderland and West Bromwich Albion and lost to Burnley, so beating a promotional rival is a must at this point to give the squad more confidence in these clashes.
