According to Football Insider, Leeds will will automatically cut at least £53million from their wage bill if they are relegated.
After a season of ups and downs for Leeds United, the financial consequences of relegation have been revealed by a report from the Football Insider. The club are in danger of returning to the Championship after a season in which they spent big on transfers. Leeds sacked two coaches this season, bringing in Sam Allardyce over a week ago.
According to the report, Leeds have clauses in players’ contracts that will cut wages by 50-60 per cent if they find themselves in the Championship next season. The club’s current wage bill is £106.5m according to their most recent set of accounts, dated 30 June 2022.
Based on these figures, a 50 per cent cut across the board would leave Leeds with a wage bill of £53.25m according to the report.
The Whites have two must win games to save their season – they face West Ham at the London Stadium this Sunday, before playing their final game at Elland Road against Spurs.
