Revealed: Leeds United could recoup £11 million for 27-year-old standout now at Everton

Jack Harrison is unlikely to stay at Leeds United, even though he’s under contract until 2028. With Everton having new owners, there’s the possibility of a cash injection that could result in the 27-year-old staying with the Toffees permanently.

Harrison signed a contract extension, including a loan exit clause, several months before Leeds’ relegation from the Premier League in May 2023.

Everton are currently battling to stay in the Premier League after failing to win any of their first five matches this season, which could complicate any plans to sign Jack Harrison permanently.

Harrison remains a key player for manager Sean Dyche, but Everton didn’t push for a permanent deal over the summer because his release clause is still in effect. However, if Leeds secure promotion from the Championship in 2024/25, Everton would have to buy Harrison outright to keep him.

Any permanent move for Harrison would likely be on Leeds’ terms. The White’s promotion would give them a stronger negotiating position due to the financial boost from returning to the Premier League. The loan clause for Harrison is expected to stay valid as long as Leeds are in the Championship.

How much could Leeds receive for Jack Harrison?

The Yorkshire Evening Post suggests Leeds could recover part of the £11 million they paid Manchester City for Harrison in 2021, with much of that likely already amortized during his time at Elland Road.

Harrison has made 42 total appearances over the past two seasons while at Everton, scoring four goals and registering three assists. Meanwhile, with Leeds, the winger made 206 total appearances while scoring 34 goals and recording 32 assists.

When the loan was made official this past summer, the player made his excitement known

“It’s brilliant to be back,” Harrison told Everton’s official website. “Everton is a great club, there is a fantastic group of lads here and I’m excited to get started again with a full pre-season of training. Last year, I had a lot of enjoyment at the Club. We had to face a lot of adversity but we were able to continue on and have a good season overall.

“There are a lot of reasons for wanting to return to Everton. I think the Club in general – the fans, the staff, the manager, my teammates – everyone made me feel really comfortable right away and that’s somewhere you want to be as a player. It’s a great place to play football.

“The other thing is I know I have a lot more to offer. That’s extra motivation for me to go back and prove to myself and to Everton Football Club that I can do more on the pitch. This season I’ll be able to have a full pre-season and hopefully hit the ground running.”
