Revealed: Leeds United’s fittest player going into next season

Pre-season often starts with fitness sessions and of course the dreaded beep test.

Yesterday, Leeds United’s pre-season got underway as the Whites get ready for their second season in the top flight no doubt hoping to kick on and push for European football.

United were sporting their smart new training gear as they got preparations underway for the new season. They certainly look as though they mean business in the new black and yellow strip.

Leeds’ stars, including top scorer Patrick Bamford, quickly got kitted out and did some medical tests as they go ready to get out onto the training field. The tests led to this hilarious tweet:

Eventually, after covid tests and blood pressure tests, the players got out on the pitch and were greeted by the dreaded beep test. Interestingly, Jamie Shackleton finished the test in first place. He’ll hope the result will impress manager Marcelo Bielsa so he can make more than 13 appearances in the league next year after a low-key first campaign in the Premier League especially now that he seems to be – based off this test at least – their fittest player. Bielsa plays an energetic style full of running, so if Shackleton can out do his teammates in the beep test perhaps he could be headed for a starting spot next season.

Finishing just behind Shackleton, was fellow 21-year-old Ian Poveda. The winger made just one more appearance than Shackleton’s 13 last year so he also no doubt has something to prove ahead of next season.

So, clearly Shackleton and Poveda are ready for the new campaign and hoping to make a splash. Meanwhile, Leeds fans will have their fingers crossed that this is just the beginning of another brilliant journey as the Whites look to kick on after a brilliant first season back in the Premier League.
