Revealed: Marcelo Bielsa blocked move for forward

Marcelo Bielsa refused to sanction a deal to sign Noa Lang from Club Brugge in the summer due to concerns about his defensive capabilities, according to The Athletic’s Phil Hay.

Lang, just 22 years old, had been linked consistently with Leeds United, but The Athletic’s Hay reported in August that although Victor Orta wanted to sign the Dutch forward, Bielsa did not want to bring in the Dutchman.

“Concerns about defensive capabilities were understood to be behind Bielsa’s decision not to pursue Club Bruges’s Noa Lang last month,” said Hay.

“[Daniel] James (finally) arrives at Leeds knowing he will be asked to graft at both ends of the field.”

Former Ajax star Lang scored 17 goals and registered 11 assists in 38 appearances across all competitions for Belgian side Club Brugge last season.

Lang has also scored twice and assisted four goals in seven games so far this season.
