Leeds United may have suffered a serious setback as a key January transfer target Archie Gray has received shocking news from his club.
The search for midfield depth continues, as Leeds United seek for reinforcements ahead of the January window. Daniel Farke is still without Ethan Ampadu and Illia Gruev, who have been out with injury since early October. Leeds have had to rely on summer signings Joe Rothwell and Ao Tanaka in midfield. Daniel Farke was revealed to be the one who asked to sign Tanaka from Germany, and was very influential in the process.
Despite key absences, Leeds United are flying in the Championship. The club are in third place in the league, just two points behind the leaders Sheffield United and Sunderland. However, the run of fixtures after this international break will determine the real promotion contenders.

Leeds United suffer shock Archie Gray news
Ahead of the January transfer window, Leeds have been linked with their former player Archie Gray. The youngster was the breakout star at Elland Road last season. However, after the club failed to win Premier League promotion, it became increasingly difficult to keep him at Elland Road. Tottenham swooped in and signed the teenager, who won Leeds Young Player of the year and made the EFL Championship team of the Year.
According to Football London, Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou is unwilling to allow Archie Gray to leave the club in January. The reports reveals that Postecoglou values the youngster’s versatility. Gray has played at right back, and in midfield during his appearances for Spurs this campaign. Despite having failed to start a Premier League game, Gray has regularly featured in the EFL Cup and the Europa League.
It looks like Gray will not be returning to Elland Road anytime soon. At a point, it looked like Leeds were in the running to bring the midfielder back to the club on loan. Daniel Farke even admitted he was still in contact with the player.
What does this mean for the club?
Leeds United will now need to focus on other midfield targets ahead of the January transfer window. The team seriously needs more options in the middle of the park. The link to Manchester City midfielder James McAtee continues to grow as the youngster also seeks playing time away from his parent club.
