Ilian Meslier was the hero once again for Leeds United on Tuesday night, as the France under 21 goalkeeper saved Rodrigo Muniz’ penalty to give Leeds the victory.
It could have gone very different for Leeds however, as senior players Stuart Dallas and Adam Forshaw both missed their respective spot kicks. Adam Forshaw took to Instagram after the game to thank Meslier for the his heroics.
‘Thanks for saving me’ Forshaw posted on his Instagram story. Forshaw would have been worried that he had ruined Leeds’ chances of making it into the last 16, but thankfully Meslier was there to save the day.
Leeds will be pleased to have progressed to the Last 16 against Arsenal, but would much rather have won the following league game to West Ham, which they lost 2-1 in the final minute.
