Richard Keys makes huge Leeds United claim involving club chairman – Daniel Farke will not be pleased

The Championship ended on Saturday in dramatic fashion. Leeds United won the title in injury time after Manor Solomon scored the winner against Plymouth. Daniel Farke’s men had now added a trophy to their successful promotion charge.

Within the last two games of the season, the headlines had been dominated by reports that Daniel Farke was set to be sacked. The claims believed that Leeds’ ownership were not impressed by his record in the top flight, and were looking to hire an experienced managed ahead of next season.

After the club lifted the league title, club chairman Paraag Marathe came out on Sunday to address the fans. In his speech he publicly backed Farke as the man that would lead Leeds into the Premier League.

Marathe voiced his support of the Leeds boss, and promised the fans that the team would be backed in the transfer market this summer.

However, according to Richard Keys, that was not always the situation. The beIN Sports anchor reportedly claimed that Paraag Marathe was responsible for the news coming out about Daniel Farke in the first place. He then shockingly revealed that the Leeds chairman made an offer to Jose Mourinho in that time:

“What he’s not saying is he started the speculation by offering Farke’s job to Jose Mourinho. I know that for a fact. It was Mourinho who actually ended the speculation by turning the offer down.”

“Sadly Marathe couldn’t convince Mourinho that Leeds won’t be fighting a relegation battle next season. That’s not something the Special One wants. Perhaps he’s right. Perhaps he agrees with Wenger, but it’s a pity.”

Disappointing news if true

No one can really confirm the news behind the scenes, but if there is truth to this, it would be disappointing. Going behind the back of the coach that lead the club back to the Premier League, only to do a U-turn is not a great sign.

The club chairman should have backed and fully supported Daniel Farke. He has achieved a lot in a short time, and has earned the right to lead the team in the top flight.
