Rickie Fowler heckled by crowd over Leeds United deal

Footage from The Open shows fans calling Rickie Fowler names after he pulled out of the Leeds United ownership deal.

The American was set to be part of the ownership group with the 49ers who eventually ended up buying the club. However, Fowler pulled out after Leeds were relegated from the Premier League. In a video posted on Twitter, you can see the fans were not happy with his decision.

One fan in the crowd could be heard saying: “What happened to the 49ers investment? Come on Leeds!”

Another person, who appeared to be holding the camera, shouts: “Coward.”

On the No Laying Up podcast, Fowler was asked about the incident and said: “He called me a coward for not going through with my Leeds investment.

“That’s a first. Maybe he should put up his own money.”

Since Fowler’s decision, a number of American sporting stars have gotten involved in the deal to buy Leeds with Jordan Speith, Justin Thomas and NBA star Russell Westbrook joining recently.
