Leeds United were promoted to the Premier League season, making their return to the top flight after just two seasons. Much credit should be given to the club’s new owners.
The 49ers Enterprises bought the remaining shares at the club a few years back, and are now fulling running the team. One of their first decisions was to bring in Daniel Farke. The German coach was tasked with winning promotion, and almost succeeded in his first season in charge.
This year, the club have achieved that feat. 100 points, 95 goals scored and a league title win is better than anyone could ask for at Elland Road. Leeds’ return has attracted a lot of praise from Premier League stalwarts. Gary Lineker recently said the return of a big club like Leeds will only benefit the Premier League.

Rio Ferdinand speaks on Leeds United

Just weeks later, another Premier League legend has spoken on the Whites’ return to the English top flight. Rio Ferdinand played for Leeds between 2000 and 2002 when he was named in the PFA Team of the Year before making the move to bitter rivals in Manchester.
Ferdinand was talking to Optus Sport about how big Leeds United are as a club. The former defender also made a huge claim that the club’s support is so overwhelming that the stadium would need expansion to hold every supporter:
“It’s great to see them get back in the Premier League because that’s where they deserve to be. Their fanbase is phenomenal. It’s a one-club city. They could fill out that stadium two or three times if it were any bigger. And it’s a great environment and atmosphere when you’re down there.”
Elland Road will play a big part next season
Home support will come into play once again this season. Leeds earned over 50% of their points at Elland Road, and it will be even more important in the Premier League. Home form is key at such a level, and if the crowd create the atmosphere they are infamously known for, then Leeds have a huge chance of survival.
