Roma attempt £30m Leeds United transfer hijack – Player still unsure

Leeds United have been smart operators in the transfer window this summer. They knew coming into it that they would need a major overhaul of their squad to have a chance of survival in the Premier League next season, and they have gone about their business with meticulous precision.

As Leeds boss Daniel Farke recently admitted that strengthening their defence and midfield was the early priority for the club, and they have signed five players to bolster their options. Sean Longstaff and Anton Stach have been the eye-catching grabs, but Jaka Bijol and Gabriel Gudmundsson showed against Manchester United that they are going to be important next season.

The Whites are on the verge of sorting out their goalkeeper for next season. They have pulled off a coup by agreeing on a deal with Lyon for Lucas Perri, who is in the process of finalising his £15m transfer to Elland Road at the moment.

The Whites have turned their attention towards adding more goals to their attack. Leeds are ready to be patient to sign Fulham’s Rodrigo Muniz, but have stepped up their efforts to sign Feyenoord winger Igor Paixao.

Roma are ready to hijack the Leeds United move for Feyenoord’s Igor Paixao

Leeds have stepped up their efforts to sign the Dutch winger following talks with the player and his representatives last week, and are pushing to take him to Elland Road.

They have tabled a bid worth £30m, and that has forced Marseille to end their pursuit of Paixao despite agreeing on personal terms on a contract with him.

However, the competition for the Brazilian has not thinned, as according to Sky Italia, Roma are still interested in signing the winger this summer.

The Serie A giants like the forward, and are exploring a deal to take him to the Stadio Olimpico in the ongoing summer transfer window.

It has been claimed that Paixao is still not completely convinced about moving to Elland Road, and that has given Roma encouragement to try and hijack Leeds’ move.

However, Feyenoord’s financial demands are a problem for Roma as well, and it appears Leeds are the only club who are prepared to meet Paixao’s asking price.

Leeds need to remain patient

Paixao is currently in Brazil, recuperating from a muscle injury, and is likely to miss the start of the season.

Leeds are convinced about his quality and are pushing to convince him to agree to move to Elland Road this summer, but it seems he is unsure at the moment.

However, the Whites must remain determined to sign him as, at the moment, no other club are prepared to meet Marseille’s demands other than Leeds.

Roma, despite being an established Serie A club, do not have the financial muscle to beat Leeds to his signature, so patience is the key in the Paixao chase.

If M Joseph wants to go, so be it. What Leeds need is a six foot twoish central striker
