Roy Keane has shock say on Kalvin Phillips

Recently, former Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips has been linked with a shock move back to Elland Road.

Since leaving Leeds, things have not gone well for Kalvin Phillips. He may have won the Premier League and Champions League as part of their treble winning squad, but he has had next to no game time.

This culminated in an ill-fated loan move to West Ham United last year and again he finds himself at the newly promoted Ipswich Town. But there were talks that he wanted to return to Leeds United. This has been shut down by Ipswich’s higher ups but there are doubts about his future moving forward after his career has somewhat unraveled in recent years since leaving Leeds United.

Now questions have been raised by former Manchester United skipper and Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane has raised questions about Phillips saying on the Stick to Football podcast: “What happened to Kalvin Phillips? It’s amazing how he’s dropped off.

Jill Scott then added: “Declan and him were so good together, their balance together was so good and I think that’s why people didn’t notice Phillips so much. You may be the best midfielder but you just have to find what works. I think the single pivot is so difficult, on your own, the technical ability needed is so high.

“I think with Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips, it gave a better balance.”

This prompted Keane to add: “Really? For an experienced player I think it is quite simple. I found it quite simple it’s just about reading the game.”

This highlights how much Phillips has fallen in the years since he left Leeds, once an England starter now unable to make the England squad raising questions about the balance of the midfield.

Once a Euros 2021 Finalist, now the midfielder is struggling to find form for the Premier League side, but as things continue to go this way he could very well end up at Leeds United again in the near future.
