Scott Parker sends clear message on Burnley’s clash with Leeds United

Scott Parker

Burnley aren’t in the best of positions before facing ex-Championship rivals Leeds United. The Clarets will welcome the Whites home in Lancashire as Scott Parker is looking at an important clash after six defeats in a row.

The manager is doing the worst among all the promoted sides this season as Burnley stands 18th in the English Premier League.

If the same continues, it won’t be long before the Lancashire-based outfit goes back to the English second division. Sunderland are doing their best among all the promoted clubs as the Black Cats stand 9th in the top half of the table.

Leeds United, on the other hand, are 15th, and Daniel Farke’s full focus is on staying in the top flight this season. Last season’s promotion was thanks to the high possession-based football, but this season it’s all about quick transition opportunities.

Parker, on the other hand, commended the promoted sides for adapting well but has cautioned that it’s still very early to pass judgment.

Talking to the press before the Premier League clash against Leeds United, Parker made sure to add an element of scepticism in his praise for Leeds United and Sunderland.

“Maybe there’s an element or an understanding of seeing what’s happened previously and knowing what’s probably needed. I would say, though, it’s still very early in the season as well, so I couldn’t really put my finger on that.”

“There’s a lot of variables that could suggest why some teams have done well or why they’ve been hugely competitive. Partly it could be that people have seen where the Premier League’s evolving and where you need to be very good or what you need to be good at for a team that’s just coming up into this division.”

Parker agrees with Sean Longstaff

The Burnley manager also talked about the league cliché of taking every game as it comes. The Englishman effectively agreed with Sean Longstaff, who had similar comments before the clash against Burnley.

“That’s it really. My main focus, as always just in general life. I don’t worry about what’s down the road or the what-ifs, what happens if you lose this amount of games.”

“The fine margins that certainly at this point in the season are exactly that. Fundamentally, you fall back on what you need to be to get a result. What sort of habits and what sort of commitment you need to get a result, and that would be the main driver.”
