Scott Parker sends warning to Leeds United

Burnley boss Scott Parker has sent a strong warning to Leeds United this week.

The clarets boss got his first win in five games against Swansea this weekend. Burnley had previously gone four games, only scoring one goal.

Jay Rodriguez scored a late penalty to seal all three points at Turf Moor against Swansea City. Burnley are in fourth place in the Championship, just two points behind Leeds United who are third.

Leeds and Burnley met earlier in the season, with the Clarets picking up a 1-0 win at Elland Road. Luca Koleosho scored the only goal of the game in the 18th minute.

Burnley only managed a late win against Swansea, with Parker admitting how tough the Swans are. The Clarets boss has warned Daniel Farke and Leeds United that they could find themselves in trouble when they meet Luke Williams’ side.

Burnley only managed to score after a late penalty due to a handball. Parker warned Leeds about how hard it was to beat Swansea:

“There’s definitely a sense of relief if we’re being honest,” Parker said to the Burnley Express.

“I thought we were very good, our general all-round game…in the first-half they caused us some problems but the game ebbs and flows and we probably lacked a little bit of an intensity about us.

“Maybe that was down to a three-game week. We’ve probably been on the wrong end of the fixture schedule this week. That’s not an excuse, but it’s a quick turnaround playing on a Sunday after a Thursday game when Swansea played on Tuesday, so they had a few days on us and you probably saw that a little bit.”

Despite the intensity of the game, Parker insists his team were the better side.

“In terms of the general numbers, we had 20 shots, seven on target, xG at where it is, we’re moving in the right direction and those numbers are very pleasing.

“But of course, there’s no denying when you get into the back end of the game you’re starting to think it might be another day where you only come away with a draw.”

Leeds United face Swansea in their first game after the international break.

What this means for the next Leeds-Burnley game

The next time Leeds United face Burnley is in January 2025. By then both clubs would still be in the promotion race, and three points would be crucial.

Daniel Farke is preparing for the January window as he seeks reinforcements to the team. Archie Gray has been linked with a loan move, while Ryan Kent may be heading to another club in the championship unless Leeds United act fast.

But first, the Whites will have to get past Swansea in their first game after the international break to continue their impressive form in the Championship.
