It was a humbling start to the season for Leeds yesterday. Despite months of hype prior to the new campaign with many tipping the West Yorkshire club for European football, the Whites lost to rivals Manchester United 5-1 in a gut-wrenching defeat. Well, that was my take but what was yours? How did social media see Leeds’ defeat yesterday?
Unsurprisingly, many saw the result as a sign that ‘second season syndrome’ is about to set in.

Of course, second season syndrome is often a precursor to relegation and many began tipping the club to be playing Championship football next term.

Another good point. Leeds were shit hope that carries on and relegation back were
they belong— BDRobs (@DMR2700) August 15, 2021
However, many – including some Manchester United fans – believed it was just a blip for Marcelo Bielsa’s boys and that relegation is still a long way off.
It's leeds.. I'll celebrate that win everytime
Celebrating a win is what a normal person does.. no one wins and act like it doesn't matter
I don't think Leeds are relegation fodder either, not this season anyway https://t.co/AfD1C0AeRt

There was one positive to take out of the game however and that was Luke Ayling’s wonder goal.

Absolutely. Ayling must be fuming that one of the best goals of his career will count for nothing.

However, even he couldn’t escape criticism on a difficult afternoon for Leeds.
The best way to describe it is, usually Bruno is quite average at finishing, yesterday he was better at finishing and had help by some questionable defending (Ayling on the line) and keeping (Meslier for the first). One game doesn’t change the facts about Brunos finishing ability
