‘Secret’ reason behind latest contract offer from Leeds United

After weeks of speculation, Leeds United announced that Harry Gray had signed a new long-term deal with the club. Many fans were worried when the announcement was not made over a week ago on his birthday.

But the deal has been wrapped up since then, and everything is going on smoothly behind the scenes. Leeds get to keep one of their brightest talents for the future after many clubs were monitoring his situation.

Gray has become a part of the first team this season, with Daniel Farke often naming him in the matchday squads in the Premier League.

Football finance expert has shared his view on why he thinks Leeds tied Harry Gray’s new contract up quickly. According to him, it was to protect one of the most valuable assets they have at the club today.

“One is obviously to tie the player down yourself in the first instance,” Plumley said.

“Obviously, a pro contract gives you scope to do that, and then you’re hoping that player comes through and develops and moves into the first team.

“The other side is if you are thinking in the background that player might move on in the future, then there’s a more financial long-term viewpoint on that, where you are protecting your own asset ultimately, and you would then benefit from a sale in the future.

“So yes, a professional contract just allows you to do several things and gives you a few more options.

“And if you were going to give the player one anyway, then you’re better off tying them down as quickly as possible.”

What plans does Daniel Farke have for Harry Gray?

Farke has never been one to mince words; since the start of the season he has said the striker needs time to develop. Leeds also need to be patient with him, the fans included. When the team went on a goal drought, the solution was to throw an inexperienced teenager in the deep end, but football does not work like that.

The Leeds boss has done a great job handling the player, and in the future, we could see a few cameos off the bench.
