Jamie Shackleton named in Worst Championship XI of the season

According to statistics site Whoscored.com, Leeds United loanee Jamie Shackleton has been one of the worst performers in the Championship this season.

The XI was posted by The Second Tier pod on their Twitter account. Whoscored rates Shackleton at 6.27 this season (rated out of 10), he is in the top 40 lowest rated players in the league.

Shackleton has made 22 appearances for Milwall this season, starting 12 games. He is yet to score or assist in the league this season. The midfielder recently featured in the FA Cup tie against Sheffield United as the team crashed out of the competition.

The 22-year old’s performances this season have led to mixed reviews but it is clear that the consensus is that he need improvement. Alex Jones, Millwall reporter for Southwark News, was asked about how Shackleton was doing this season, this was his response:

“He’s a really good technical player. Fantastic on the ball, can spot a good pass and clearly knows the game inside out. You can tell he has Premier League experience, but I worry about his physicality a little bit. You need to be strong and commanding to play in a Championship midfield, but his size means that he can get overrun a little bit.”

Shackleton is under contract with Leeds till 2024, and there would be questions asked about his place in the club.
