Sheffield United had the international break to prepare certain players from their injury list for the high-profile clash against Leeds United. Despite knowing what this matchup means, manager Chris Wilder is putting key players at risk.
Leeds need to secure all three points not just because they have yet to win over a promotional rival but also to put the Sunderland draw behind them or at least not let that result linger.
The Whites have drawn against Norwich City, Sunderland, and West Bromwich Albion while losing to Burnley. It will be interesting to see if manager Daniel Farke can get over this hump that’s plaguing his side.
Sheffield United takes a cautious approach with injured players
Sheffield are taking a cautious approach with their injured players ahead of their upcoming match against Leeds after the international break.
The Blades are joint leaders of the Championship and remain unbeaten so far in the season. Meanwhile, the Yorkshire side are struggling with an injury crisis, but Sheffield United have a relatively healthy squad going into the game.
Midfielder Tom Davies, who is currently sidelined, won’t be rushed back into action. Wilder also noted that he won’t be rushing defender Jack Robinson to the starting XI after returning to the bench for their win over Luton Town, but wasn’t deemed fit enough to start games.
“He’s back in the group, so he’ll be in the squad,” Wilder said leading up to the game against Luton Town (h/t Leeds Live). “It’s great to have him back from a mentality and experience point of view.
“We’ve talked about the average age of the squad coming down, the youthfulness and inexperience of the team. So to have Jack around the building and with the chance to step on the pitch if needed is great.
“I’m not playing games – is he going to start? No, but he’ll be available and just having his voice and presence around will be a major boost.”
It will be interesting to see which side can overcome their injuries to secure three points and start the post-international break on a positive note.
