Sheffield United hand Leeds United huge promotion boost – How many points needed to seal Premier League berth?

Leeds United

The early kick off on Saturday brought a lot of joy to Leeds United fans. The Whites continued their march to promotion, while their rivals slipped up.

Leeds hosted Preston at Elland Road on Saturday hoping to continue their good form. The club are unbeaten at home in 2025. The match started off in a flurry, with three goals scored in the space of 13 minutes of football. Manor Solomon gave the hosts the leads with a sublime strike; his eight goal of the campaign.

Daniel Farke would have been frustrated as the Whites conceded just two minutes after opening the scoring. Preston pulled one back in a goal many will see as horrible defending from the backline. Solomon turned provider, setting up Jayden Bogle to give Leeds the lead.

The hosts missed a whole host of chances, but managed to see out the win in the second half.

Sheffield United were also in action at the same time as Leeds. The Blades were also pushing for automatic promotion, being two points behind Leeds and Burnley. But their Saturday got off to the worst start possible. Jesurun Rak-Sakyi gave Sheffield United a 1-0 lead just before half time. When the team came out for the second half, Plymouth came out a changed side. The home team pulled off a shock victory; scoring twice in seven minutes at the death to win the game.

The Blades are now five points behind Leeds and Burnley with four games to go.
