Shock club tipped to move for Leeds United star

Multiple reports have linked clubs with a Leeds United player who is increasingly frustrated this season.

Daniel Farke did not have plans for a lot of players before this season began, and had to let them leave the club. The likes of Cody Drameh, Rasmus Kristensen and Charlie Cresswell were allowed to leave the club.

Farke brought in new faces this season after losing some key players. The sales of Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter to Premier League clubs netted Leeds around over £100million.

The attack suffered the most departures; Leeds lost two of their best players in Summerville and Rutter. Despite all this, Leeds boast one of the best attacks in the league this season. Daniel Farke has done a wonderful job to keep his side in third place, firmly in the promotion race.

This season, Joel Piroe, Brenden Aaronson, Dan James and Wilfried Gnonto have been the first names on the team sheet in attack. This has seen Patrick Bamford, Mateo Joseph, Joe Gelhardt and loan signing Manor Solomon fighting for a place in the team.

Gelhardt in particular has suffered the most. The youngster has only made two appearances this season in the championship. This has lead to Ex-Leeds man Carlton Palmer suggesting that West Bromwich Albion would be interested in Gelhardt:

“Joe Gelhardt has made his feelings clear to the Leeds United hierarchy, as he wants to leave the club on loan in January,” Palmer said speaking to FLW.

“I can’t blame him,” he stated. “It’s a difficult situation for Daniel Farke to manage, but the 22-year-old has seen very little gametime this season. He’s played nine minutes of league football this season.”

Last season, Gelhardt played just 10 league games which is a huge concern when it comes to the players development.

“It makes sense for both Leeds United and the player for him to get some gametime. Of course, Daniel Farke is blessed with great attacking options and it’s just the situation. You want to keep a big squad, you need a big squad as the games come thick and fast. But, it’s just not happened (for Gelhardt),”

A January move is the best for Gelhardt

There will be a lot of Championship clubs interested in signing Gelhardt on loan this January. A move would be the best decision for all parties.

At 22 years, Gelhardt is no longer a prospect, he needs to play. And if he cannot get that at Leeds this season, there is no reason to stay past January.
