Shock news hits Elland Road as Joel Piroe seeks Leeds exit

Leeds United fans complained when there was no significant investment in attack this summer. The Whites only managed to bring in three new signings in that area of the pitch.

Noah Okafor was signed for £18million while Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha came on board as free agents. It was a dry start for the trio but they have all scored in the Premier League.

Now, they have to make sure they continue to find the net if Leeds are to guarantee safety.

Graeme Bailey has been speaking on the Dutch striker’s future. According to the journalist, there is a possibility that Piroe could leave the club in January.

“It depends what Leeds then bring in. It’s a squad game and they don’t want to be caught short.

“I get that he will want to play more, but how would allowing Piroe to leave benefit Leeds? I guess there’s a chance, but I’d be pretty amazed if he did leave in January.”

“Clearly, his agent is going to be talking to clubs now and working on it [if his position in the pecking order doesn’t change].

“Let’s see what happens. He clearly wants to be playing, as most players do.”

A transfer is very possible with how far the striker has fallen in the pecking order.

Striker has failed to hit the heights of last season

Last season, Joel Piroe was the king of the mountain at Elland Road – everything the striker touched turned into goals. He scored 19 goals in the Championship and ended as top scorer. In his first few Premier League exploits, he has failed to recapture that form.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has also staked his claim to be the main striker at the club with his performances. The disparity between the two players when it comes to being on the end of goalscoring chances is evident. Piroe has featured in three games and has accumulated 0.38 Expected Goals (xG) and missed one big chance – according to Sofascore.

Calvert-Lewin has gotten on the end of more opportunities purely down to how he plays; 1.34xG and five chances missed. The former Everton man will need to put on his scoring boots, but for now he is the main man.
