Shock Patrick Bamford transfer decision looms as Championship club acts

Former Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has yet to decide on his next club despite attracting interest from teams in the Championship, the MLS and La Liga since he left Elland Road towards the end of the summer transfer window.

Leeds brutally cut short Bamford’s seven-year stay in the summer, terminating his contract and letting him leave as a free agent after Daniel Farke decided to exclude him from the first-team squad.

The 32-year-old striker was unhappy at the way his departure was handled. However, he and his agents have been looking for a new club, with several teams showing a serious interest in signing the former Leeds striker.

His representatives were in talks with Getafe last month, but a deal has yet to materialise. Several Championship sides are also keen, but at least one club have ruled itself out of the race.

Portsmouth are not keen to sign Patrick Bamford

Wrexham and Middlesbrough are reportedly targeting the former Leeds striker, who boasts a decent Championship record.

It also emerged on Monday that Portsmouth were pursuing a deal to take the forward to Fratton Park as part of their plans to sign a striker.

However, according to The News, Pompey are not pursuing a deal to sign the former Leeds forward on a free transfer.

They are not among the clubs that are considering a deal for the forward, and Bamford will not be joining Portsmouth in the coming days.

John Mousinho retains the option to include an out-of-contract player in his squad, having left a slot open when registering his team with the EFL after the transfer window closed.

Wrexham and Middlesbrough are still pursuing Bamford, while he is also considering moving to the United States or Spain after spending all his career in England.

Bamford will be a good signing for a Championship club

The former Leeds striker has a decent record in the Championship, but his biggest issue is the fitness concerns surrounding him over the last few years.

Bamford was unavailable for a staggering 26 games in the last two seasons, which played a big part in Daniel Farke not trusting him again ahead of the ongoing campaign.

However, if he agrees to sign an incentivised contract, the forward could still do a job in the Championship and could be a good signing for an ambitious club.

Whether a club such as Wrexham take a chance on signing the former Leeds striker this season is something we may have to wait and watch for.
