Shocking loan deal in the works as Leeds work to bring in midfielder from a Premier League rival

One of the positions Victor Orta and Leeds wanted to address this summer was centre midfield and a shocking revelation today suggests a deal could soon be on the cards.

Orta made it known that this was one area in which Leeds were happy to settle on a loan agreement in order to bulk out an area of an important area of squad. The Whites struggled last year when Kalvin Phillips was absent so a back-up is certainly required.

It looks like that back-up could soon arrive in the shape of Billy Gilmour. The young Chelsea midfielder has impressed many since bursting onto the scene in a stunning Man of the Match display against Liverpool in the FA Cup back in 2020 and has shown a lot of potential.

He also picked up the Man of the Match against England last week as he impressed for Scotland up against potential future teammate Kalvin Phillips in midfield. Arguably, had he featured against Croatia in Scotland’s decisive final group game, the Scots could’ve made it through to the last 16. Instead, he missed following a positive Coronavirus test.

At 20 years of age, Gilmour has plenty of potential and Chelsea are looking to further his development with a loan move this season. According to the Daily Record, the European Champions want the midfielder to remain in the Premier League despite interest from Scottish Champions Rangers.

This report identified Leeds along with Wolves and Norwich as the likeliest destinations for the midfielder next season.

It may seem a little strange seeing two old rivals in Leeds and Chelsea working towards a deal that could be beneficial for both parties, however the quality shown by Gilmour in the past makes the move a must if Leeds can complete it.
