”Short in a couple of areas” – Leeds United January transfer window hopes analysed

Many Leeds United fans did not like how the summer transfer window ended. The lack of investment in attacking areas was glaring – out of 10 new signings, only three were in the attack.

And scoring goals was a problem for the Whites in the first few games of the season. Leeds only had one open play goal in their first four league matches. Daniel Farke changed some things in the team, and the results have reflected it.

However, in the last couple of games, Leeds have been let down by their finishing. And in the Premier League sometimes the different between a point and three points is simply one goal.

The Whites only added three new players to the attack this season – Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Noah Okafor and Lukas Nmecha. Leeds’ £100million spend focused mostly on the defence and midfield – it has paid dividends so far. Anton Stach, Sean Longstaff and Gabriel Gudmundsson are all top picks for the best signing at the club this season.

It is very early in the campaign, but there are plans for the January transfer window. Leeds managing director Robbie Evans has said the club could skip the winter window due to PSR. But now, Graeme Bailey has hinted that the club could do some business when the time comes:

“Leeds know they’re still short in a couple of areas, but they’re pleased with how things have gone.

“Realistically, they don’t think they could be in a much better position right now.

“Maybe they could have beaten Bournemouth, but equally, they could have lost that one.

“They’re putting up a real fight, and if they finish around 15th, they’d be absolutely delighted.

“Two wins at this stage is fine — expectations were never for a top-six finish.

“They’re satisfied with their progress, and if they reach January in good shape, they’ll look to do smart business to make sure they stay up.”

Club need help in attack

It is quite obvious where Leeds need reinforcements – in attack. The club needs someone who can consistently put the ball in the back of the net. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has shown he can get on the end of chances, but finishing is a problem.

The Whites rank among the worst in the league when it comes to assists and passes into the opposition box. If the club can get an attacking midfielder, and a winger who can be a direct threat, it could have a huge influence on the attack moving forward.
