Leeds United spent most of the summer window pursuing a center forward, only to end up signing two free agents. In the early part of the window, it was confirmed the club made a bid for Rodrigo Muniz.
The Whites tried to tempt the Fulham star away, but the London club held firm. A host of options were linked with moves to Elland Road including Callum Wilson, and current Atalanta striker Nikola Krstovic. But Leeds ended the summer with Joel Piroe, Lukas Nmecha and Dominic Calvert-Lewin as options.
The early part of the season was hard to watch as the club only scored once from open play, but Daniel Farke tweaked the tactics.

Jermaine Beckford thinks Leeds United star should not be judged on goals

In the last three games before the international break, Leeds scored six goals – with Dominic Calvert-Lewin grabbing one. But since the Wolves game, he has failed to find the back of the net. Ex-Leeds man Jermaine Beckford thinks the former Everton man should not be solely judged on goals:
“I genuinely hate putting dates and games as timelines [on scoring], because these players offer so much more than just the goals,” he told Leeds Live.
“Dominic holds the ball up, he’s pinning the defender, he’s got another one closing him down.
“He sets the ball off to Ethan Ampadu or somebody else in the middle to spread the ball out to the other side.
“The ball gets crossed in and somebody else scores a goal – it’s not Dominic that scored, but Dominic has been a key vital part of that machine, of that situation, to score the goal.
“Now, if he does that in two, three, four, five, six games in a row and doesn’t score, are we going to judge him on that or not scoring?”
Dominic Calvert-Lewin should be scoring for Leeds
Beckford does have a point about the striker, but in these past few games, Calvert-Lewin should have at least scored another goal. He missed big chances in the games against Bournemouth and Spurs – two games Leeds dropped points in.

The striker’s stats in these games reads as follows:
- 3 big chances missed vs Bournemouth
- 1 big chance missed vs Spurs
If Leeds are to achieve survival this year, Dominic Calvert-Lewin has to be converting these chances.
