Leeds United boss Daniel Farke mentioned something very interesting when his side won against Wolves last month. He said that at Elland Road, the narrative changes after every result.
And that is exactly how this season has gone; every game comes with its reactions. Farke joked after the Wolves win that fans would be talking about European football. Since then, Leeds have gone on to draw with Bournemouth and narrowly lost to Spurs at home.
This weekend’s defeat to Burnley has brought a new set of narratives this week. Over the weekend, the fans and media attacked Daniel Farke blaming his decisions for why the club lost to the Clarets. Scott Parker’s side had only won one game this season before the visit of Leeds.

Burnley started off the blocks quickly, scoring the first goal in the first 20 minutes of the game. Questions need to be asked about Leeds’ defending as Lesley Ugochukwu was left completely unmarked to head home past Karl Darlow. After the goal the Whites tried to work their way back in the game, but their finishing let them down – one of the biggest chances being when Brenden Aaronson was one-on-one with Dubravka. But his effort was saved onto the post.
The second half was dominated by Leeds who created the most chances and had the most possession, but a long range effort from Luom Tchouana sealed the game. The midfielder said after the game that he caught Karl Darlow off guard for the goal.
talkSport’s Simon Jordan did not hold back when discussing Leeds United. He thinks Daniel Farke’s side are prime relegation candidates:
“Leeds and Burnley are amongst it.
“At this moment, they have two or three Premier League sides who are not performing at a high level.
“Wolves and West Hams of the world are not performing at a high level, and so they have allowed the Championship sides who have come up to look better.”
Daniel Farke must go back to the drawing board
The Leeds boss must find a solution as soon as possible. Upcoming games against West Ham and Forest could be crucial. Some players have dropped their levels after an impressive start to the season while others need a chance to make their impact. This weekend’s game could prove pivotal to Leeds’ survival hopes.
