There are signs on life at Leeds United despite the difficult run of fixtures they have had this past few weeks. The club knew they would be tested when they returned from the international break.
And even with two losses, there have been some huge positives. In the defeat to Aston Villa, it was a close game that could have gone either way, and it took a late free kick from Morgan Rogers to take the win for Unai Emery’s men. Last weekend saw the Whites battle from 2-0 down at the Etihad to almost take a point from Manchester City. The home side escaped as Phil Foden scored a late winner to deny Farke’s men any points.
| Opponent | Result |
|---|---|
| Chelsea | 3-1 Win |
| Aston Villa | 1-2 Loss |
| West Ham United | 2-1 Win |
| Tottenham Hotspur | 1-2 Loss |
| Bournemouth | 2-2 Draw |
In midweek, Leeds sprung a surprise on Chelsea as Jaka Bijol, Ao Tanaka and Dominic Calvert-Lewin were all on the scoresheet in an emphatic win. After the game, Blues boss Enzo Maresca said the home side deserved the win.
Simon Jordan slams Leeds United owners in scathing assessment
Things on the field may not be totally perfect, but at this point of the season it is not late for Leeds to fight for survival. What concerns many around the club is the off the pitch stuff, especially involving the ownership. The 49ers look to have made quite a mess of things in recent months at Rangers, and Simon Jordan is concerned about what that holds for the future of Leeds United:
“I’m curious to see about this ownership model because I’m flabbergasted the way they handled the Rangers situation.” he said on TalkSport.
“You know what a big club looks like, you know their is a uniqueness about Rangers, why did you handle it the way you did?
“Taking out your Chief Executive, your Director of Football, you made a bad appointment of a manager that you must have been involved with, and this is the ownership model that runs Leeds.”
| Position | Club | Points |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Hearts | 32 |
| 2 | Celtic | 32 |
| 3 | Motherwell | 23 |
| 4 | Rangers | 23 |
| 5 | Hibernian | 21 |
“Previous owner Andrea Radrizzani had ambition for Leeds, but alongside the 49ers they took it down and then the 49ers nicked it off him because they got it cheaper when they got relegated.
“But it’s interesting because they own these two big clubs for reasons that will be about success, I would suggest, but I am unsure.”
Fans are not pleased with the 49ers this season
Leeds fans have had issues with the ownership since the summer window. Upon all the investment, the 49ers missed upgrading crucial areas of the pitch, including the attack. Farke’s side have not played the best football this season, but they have managed to create chances but have no one up top to put them away.
With January just around the corner, the owners’ ambition will be tested. They need reinforcements if they want this team to survive relegation; whether they will spend or not will tell the fanbase a lot about the owners.
