The gap in quality in the Premier League continues to increase. Leeds United will be up against it next season, after all the promoted clubs this season went straight back down.
Leicester City and Ipswich Town hit 97 and 96 points respectively, but were both relegated with a handful of games to go. Leeds hit the 100 point mark this season, and will be aware of the task at hand. Recruitment will be very important this summer, as the club figure out which targets to pursue.
The Whites have had some success recruiting from other European leagues, Germany in particular. Daniel Farke’s knowledge from his time in the Bundesliga saw Illia Gruev and Ao Tanaka arrive in back-to-back seasons. Both midfielders have played a huge part in this campaign. Leeds club chairman Paraag Marathe has also revealed that Farke will be actively involved in transfers this summer.

The Whites looked to Germany again for another signing. It was recently revealed that Eric Dier was in contact with Leeds United among other clubs over a return to England. But it seems the former Spurs star will play his football with Monaco in Ligue 1 next season.
Sky Sports pundit David Prutton had his say on the Whites failing to secure a deal for Dier:
“Eric Dier would have been a pretty decent addition for Leeds, given his experience and his ability at that particular level,” Prutton said to FLW.
“Hypothetically, it could have been a good signing, as he has played for a big club in the Premier League and has international experience as well.
“However, for every Eric Dier, there’ll be an abundance of other players that can do a very similar job.
“So if this is one that’s passed Leeds by, I’m sure they’ll be fine.
Prutton is wrong, Leeds need quality
Getting Eric Dier would have been a huge boost for the team. He is a kind of player that raises a level of a squad like Leeds United. Daniel Farke and the recruitment team need to push for signings of that profile. Player quality is the ultimate factor in the Premier League, and the more good players, the higher the chance of survival for a club like Leeds.
