“Sneaky good signing” – Leeds United £12m star backed to make big impact

Leeds United are looking forward to the rest of the Premier League season after a summer transfer window that ended in a nightmarish fashion. The club are now looking to ensure that their new signings feel settled and they build on a solid start to the campaign.

The Yorkshire giants had a bad deadline day when their pursuit of Wales winger Harry Wilson collapsed following Fulham’s change of heart about selling him, with minutes left in the transfer window. The club are still dealing with the fallout of what happened on Monday evening.

However, Leeds are insistent that a bad end to the transfer window should not overshadow the good work they did in bringing in 10 new players into the squad for a combined fee of more than £100m. They believe the club could not have done anything more without threatening to breach the Premier League’s financial rules.

Sean Longstaff is one of the new recruits that Leeds are confident will do well and play a big role if the Whites are to stay in the Premier League this season.

Can you name the team Leeds United signed these players from in the 2000s?

Leeds United lauded for signing Sean Longstaff for a reasonable fee

Longstaff didn’t start the first two Premier League games, but injuries to Ethan Ampadu and Ao Tanaka brought him into the starting eleven against his former side Newcastle last weekend.

The midfielder was dominating in the middle of the park as he protected the back four and negated a Newcastle side that finished fifth in the Premier League last season.

Former Premier League star Nedum Onuoha has claimed that Longstaff was a brilliant signing for Leeds, given his bags of Premier League experience.

He believes that to get him for a fee in the region of £12m was a crazy good deal for a newly promoted Premier League side.

“I think that’s sneaky good signing”, Onuoha said on James Lawrence Allcott’s YouTube channel.

[He is] somebody we’ve seen do well in the Premier League before and to get him for £12million.”

Farke has selection headaches

Anton Stach’s early-season performances have more or less made him a certainty in the Leeds midfield, and Longstaff came into the fore against Newcastle.

Once Ampadu and Tanaka return, the Leeds manager will have a serious selection headache. Longstaff has proven that his presence will be needed against the top teams.

It’s a good problem to have, and Farke will have a few tough calls to make if the Leeds midfield duo are fit ahead of his side’s trip to Fulham after the international break.
