Leeds United have been linked with multiple targets since last month. Now that there are just a few days left till the transfer window opens, the club is expecting serious activity.
Leeds know they need to invest in the squad, as they hope to survive the Premier League next season. Club chairman Paraag Marathe has vowed to the fans that the club will spend this summer. Reports claim that the Whites will have up to £150million when the window opens.
This is similar to what two of the three promoted teams spent last year, but unfortunately for them, they were all relegated. Leeds will hope they avoid the same fate. Troy Deeney recently spoke during the Championship playoff final, and advised this year’s new teams to avoid trying to outplay opponents in the Premier League.

Daniel Farke is keen on adding some bodies in the middle of the park. Since last month, the club have been linked with the likes of Sean Longstaff, Tomas Soucek and more recently Abdoulaye Doucoure. When the window opens, the Whites will attempt to sign Soucek and Longstaff, both players are available this summer. But Doucoure reportedly has a deal in Saudi Arabia.
Last week, Leeds were linked with a move for Southampton midfielder Mateus Fernandes. Multiple outlets revealed that £30million would be enough to sign the player from St. Mary’s.
It now seems like the initial reports were wide off the mark. Daily Echo reporter Alfie House revealed that the Saints value Fernandes for much more than thought:
“The Daily Echo understands Southampton’s true valuation of youth international Fernandes is much higher than reported.
“A potential £30m price tag was laughed off on Friday, with another quick-witted source quipping: ‘His hair is worth £30m’.” the extract from the article read.
Leeds need to find alternatives
Once this news has come out, Leeds need to start looking for alternatives. Southampton are very ambitious with sales. They recently valued Tyler Dibling at £100million, and Fernandes’ price tag is expected to be in that range.
The Saints are comfortable and will not be forced into selling. So they will dictate the price this summer. Leeds can find cheaper alternatives.
