Southampton star open to Leeds United move – West Ham hold solid interest

Leeds United still have no idea who will start next season as first choice goalkeeper. After the events of this past season, the situation has just gotten more complicated.

Karl Darlow ended the season as first choice after Daniel Farke benched Illan Meslier during the run in. This sparked rumours that the Frenchman could leave Elland Road during the summer after losing his place in the first team.

Just days into the summer transfer window, reports revealed that Leeds had offered the Frenchman to multiple clubs in their bid to offload him. However, Graeme Bailey said that if a deal is not made, Meslier could remain at the club:

“…However, it doesn’t mean to say Leeds will take a huge loss in him and pay for him to go or anything like that. If it’s not a suitable offer, he’ll stay at Leeds.

“He’s still a highly thought of player and a good goalkeeper. They’re not going to give him away. They’re certainly not going to give him away for free.”

Leeds United focused on new goalkeeper

It now looks like the search for a new keeper could be over. Aaron Ramsdale was heavily linked with a move over the past month, but it looked like the price tag would drive Leeds away. Ramsdale was on a shortlist of keepers including Sam Johnstone. This latest development could mean there is still a chance for a move.

According to Sportsboom, Ramsdale is open to a move to Leeds United. The Whites would have to fight off competition from Rangers and West Ham this summer. Southampton are resigned to losing the England keeper, and a move could be done later this month.

Ramsdale is not the solution

Aaron Ramsdale is a great keeper and has worked hard in his career. But he just is not the quality of keeper if Leeds want to stay up in the Premier League. His season at Southampton was full of errors and he was even benched for a stretch of games at one point.

Signing him would just be wasting money when there are other alternatives.
