Tottenham Hotspur are in a challenging spot early in the 2024-25 season following their North London Derby loss to Arsenal on Sunday. Moreover, one pundit took a shot at Spurs for pursuing players who are better suited for the Championship than the Premier League.
During this past summer transfer window, Leeds United sold their potential budding star Archie Gray for a reported £30 million. Tottenham secured a standout who is only scratching the ceiling of his potential.
Gray played in 52 matches across all competitions for Leeds last season, recording two assists. However, the teenager was a versatile player, playing as a right back and all over the midfield at various points.
Jamie O’Hara slams Tottenham for pursuing landing ex-Leeds player
Nonetheless, with the squad’s struggles through four matches, talkSPORT pundit Jamie O’Hara is criticizing the club for these summer transfers, which are the reason for their poor start to the season.
“Give me Aaron Lennon, Huddlestone, Keane Defoe van de vaart over any of these any day of the week, we sign players from Bournemouth, Burnley, Leeds and Forest then expect championship results #Spurs heads gone,” O’Hara wrote on X.

While O’Hara is looking at the Gray transfer for what it is right now, he doesn’t see that this move was for the long term. Transfer expert Graeme Bailey recently stated that the Whites sold Spurs a player who he believes has the potential to be as good as Steven Gerrard.
“Losing someone who could’ve been the head of a golden generation at Leeds,” Bailey told LeedsUnited.News in an exclusive interview. “With Red Bull’s deal, did Leeds really need to lose Gray? I am not convinced and I am gutted for Leeds fans. There will be some younger Leeds fans who won’t even realise he’s not a right back. He could be the new Steven Gerrard, he’s that good.”
With any young player, patience is needed, and while Gray didn’t play in the match against Arsenal, Spurs view him as a vital part of their future, considering the amount of money they spent.
The question will be whether pundits like O’Hara and Spurs supporters who think like him have the patience with Gray.
