On Monday, Leeds United did something they had not done since February. They scored six or more goals in one game for the second time this year. Hours after the game, it was confirmed that they had sealed their place in the Premier League.
Despite Leeds thrashing the Potters 6-0 at Elland Road, the result that sealed promotion for the Whites came in the next game. Burnley and Sheffield faced off, with Chris Wilder’s side needing a result to keep themselves in the race for promotion.
Unfortunately it was not meant to be, as the Clarets won 2-1 to book their place in the Premier League next season.

Stoke City boss makes serious Leeds United admission

Daniel Farke’s side delivered an absolute hammering to the Potters on Monday. Joel Piroe opened the scoring just six minutes into the game, and that was when Stoke City knew they were in for a long day. Leeds ended the first half with four more goals, and added one more in the second half.
After the game, Mark Robins just admitted that his opponents were much better on the day:
“We didn’t take part in it,” said Robins. “It gives me a lot of food for thought. It was really disappointing. We were poor, didn’t take part in it. We weren’t at the races, didn’t look anything like we’ve looked of late and let everyone down. It’s disappointing. Got to move past it because we’ve got a game coming up and our games are very important. We didn’t lay a glove on them from minute one.” via YEP.
Leeds show they are serious title contenders
After sealing promotion, the only thing the Whites can set their sights on is the Championship. With two games to go, all Daniel Farke’s men have to avoid is slipping up to secure the league title. Leeds have a huge advantage in the goal difference, Farke’s side have 89 goals this season, 28 more than Burnley who are level on points.
Leeds should repeat what they did in 2020 and win the league and get promoted, it is what the fans at Elland Road deserve.
