Leeds United might see a Premier League promotion rival strengthen their midfield and add a veteran experience who has won the Premier League and Champions League.
Earlier this month, The Sun reported that Premier League and Championship clubs are monitoring a potential move for 34-year-old Jordan Henderson. The Ajax captain has struggled to secure a regular starting spot with the Dutch side.
Although there may be tax implications following his departure from Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq, the former Liverpool standout is confident that won’t be an issue. A return to English football could be on the cards with January approaching.
Moreover, this month, Football Insider reported, citing sources, that Sunderland are working on a stunning deal to re-sign Henderson in the January transfer window. The Black Cats have reached out about a potential move for the veteran midfielder as they prepare for a push for promotion in the new year which will make things harder for Leeds United certainly.

Sunderland captain Dan Neil is all for the idea of bringing Liverpool and England legend Jordan Henderson back to where it all began. With rumors swirling that Henderson is feeling unsettled at Ajax and might be looking to return to England, Neil has pointed out that the mood in the Sunderland camp is fantastic.
He mentioned that “squad morale is through the roof” after a successful week that saw them extend their lead in the Championship. Neil thinks Henderson’s wealth of experience could be just what the team needs, especially with the youthful energy of players like Jobe Bellingham and Chris Rigg. He believes the 34-year-old would fit right in with Regis Le Bris’s “fearless” squad.
“He is a top-quality player,” Neil said about Henderson (h/t Leeds Live). “He can come back here if he wants! I’d be a bit nervous telling him what to do! The changing room is buzzing, the squad morale is through the roof. We are on a momentum wave at the minute.
“It has been fearless and everyone trying to build their careers for a few years now. Jack Clarke, Amad Diallo, we are a young team and fearless but also mature for a young team. We are fearless because we will try things in attack, but mature in terms of when the game needs it we can change.”
