Surprising manager backs Phillips to out-fox Denmark midfield in Euros semi

Boy, the world isn’t able to stop talking about the Yorkshire Pirlo at the moment. It seems like every day someone is saying something about Kalvin Phillips’ performances on the international stage.

Initially, the likes of Gary Neville criticised the Leeds man suggesting he and Declan Rice weren’t good enough to bring success. However, since their masterclass against Germany, most have rushed to praise the duo including Fabio Capello and Tony Adams.

Another man has now come to praise Phillips ahead of England’s semi-final battle with Denmark on Wednesday, however it is hard to believe the source.

Former Manchester United and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho told talkSport he believed Phillips and Rice will control Denmark on Wednesday whilst helping England claim the win and a place in the final.

He said: “I think the back four with the amazing Euros that both central midfielders [Phillips and Rice] are doing is more than enough to control Denmark offensively.

“And then you have four players to decide the creativity of the game. Do England need to play with the back three like against Germany? My answer is no.”

To those keeping track of what pundits have had to say about Phillips, you’ll know that it’s not long since the former Real Madrid manager criticised Phillips suggesting his delivery wasn’t good enough against the Czech Republic. Yet now he’s praising the Leeds man and backing him to lead England to success? Things can change fast, can’t they?
