talkSPORT pundit makes sensational Danilho Doekhi Leeds United claim – ‘I think…’

Danilho Doekhi

Leeds United are yet to make a move in this January transfer window. Weeks before it opened, fans already had their suspicions that this would be a very quiet period.

In the Championship last year, the club barely made any moves in the winter window. They did win the league title, but the situation is much more different in the Premier League.

The Whites’ rivals are already busy in the market adding reinforcements. West Ham have already made more than one permanent transfer, however the Hammers have been dealt a huge blow with this latest news.

Talksport pundit gives verdict on Leeds United target Danilho Doekhi

It emerged last week that Leeds United were interested in Union Berlin defender Danilho Doekhi. And the interest was very mutual; per reports, Doekhi is ready to join Daniel Farke’s side.

What remains is an agreement on the transfer fee. The defender is out of contract in the summer, and Leeds want a lower fee to sign him this month. But Union Berlin are adamant that they will not let him go for cheap.

Kevin Hatchard at Talksport has given his take on the potential deal, saying that it would be the perfect move for the 49ers to make:

“I think this is an absolute no-brainer for Leeds to try and do this deal now because he’s somebody that’s used to playing in a back three, they’ve had a load of success recently switching to that back three.

“He’s a set-piece threat, scored again at the weekend from centre back, really important goal.

“Brilliant in the air, great leader, good experience, good on the ball as well. They’ve brought in guys like Anton Stach, from German football. Stach has been a huge hit, he’s done really, really well, I think Doekhi could slot in really nicely.”

49ers need to seal the deal

At this point, there is nothing stopping Leeds’ owners from closing this deal. There is interest from both sides and the player makes a great fit in the team.

If the club want a lower deal, it is understandable, but at the same time, the more they frustrate Union Berlin, the more the German club would prefer to keep Doekhi and let him go for free in the summer.

So the club have to move carefully if they want to seal a deal this month. Defensive cover is very necessary, Leeds found this out when Joe Rodon was out for a few matches leaving no natural center back on the bench.
