Leeds United have been heavily linked with an interest in several players ahead of a potential return to the Premier League. Promotion will lead to a squad overhaul, and the recruitment team are already working on several targets. However, any move would have to wait until the Whites secure automatic promotion. More names will get linked with Leeds, but only some of them are realistic targets, and only a few of them are worth signing if Leeds are in the Premier League next season.

Several players have already been linked with a move to Elland Road, but we have picked out six names who could be realistic targets for the club in the next summer transfer window.

However, it is also safe to say that Leeds would need a considerable leap in quality if they get promoted, and only a few of them are worth signing for the Whites.

Caoimhin Kelleher – The number 1 target for Leeds United – Worth it

The Liverpool goalkeeper, who has probably made his last appearance for the Reds in the EFL Cup final, is set to leave Anfield in the summer when he will have a year left on his contract. Leeds are among the several clubs who have their eyes on him, but he will be a realistic target if the Whites get promoted. And if Leeds want a real leap in quality, he is the real deal Leeds should be chasing in the summer.

Hugo Bueno – A talented young full-back who could solve a problem area of Leeds United – Worth it

Bueno is on Wolves’ books, but he has been on loan at Feyenoord this season, where he has been hugely impressive, including performing in the Champions League. Leeds have identified him as a potential target if they get promoted, and he is the kind of young talent that should thrive at Elland Road. He is definitely worth signing if the club want their squad to go to the next level.

Matt Targett – An experienced full-back option – But not worth it

The Newcastle left-back has emerged as an option for Leeds who are considering experienced options in the summer transfer window. He has made more than 160 Premier League appearances, but has hardly played this season. He would be an experienced addition, but he is not a player who will add that major leap in quality to their squad.

Kalvin Phillips – He wants to return to Leeds United – But not worth it

If Leeds get promoted to the Premier League, Phillips is probably the most realistic signing for the Whites. He wants to return to Elland Road, and Manchester City want to sell him. However, the Leeds fanbase are divided and given his performances in the last three years, there is a real threat that this could be nothing more than a signing based on emotion rather than a certain plan.

Can you name these past and present Leeds United players?

Nicolas Raskins – the 49ers target who has real quality – Worth it

The Rangers midfielder is almost certain to leave Ibrox after catching the eye of several clubs across Europe this summer. Leeds have their eyes on him but he is also on Aston Villa’s radar, which shows he is rated at a higher level. The 49ers should get this deal done if Raskin is keen to join, and he will represent the different level of player Leeds would want this summer if they get promoted.

Tammy Abraham – a Premier League-experienced goalscorer – Worth it

The Englishman has spent the last four years in Italy and is currently on loan at AC Milan from Roma. Leeds are among the clubs that are interested in getting their hands on him if he gets promoted. Abraham has played at a big club such as Chelsea in the Premier League and previously performed in the top flight. He would definitely be worth it for Leeds if he is available for a reasonable fee and wages.
