The Premier League players who could sign for Leeds United

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke could get his wish in the transfer window this January.

The Leeds boss has been in the market for an attacking midfielder since the summer transfer window. Leeds missed out on signing one despite being in talks with Sheffield United midfielder Gus Hamer. The club also had a strong interest in Fabio Carvalho, but the youngster chose to stay in the Premier League and joined Brentford.

This season, Farke has relied on Brenden Aaronson to play as the number 10 in his system. The American has delivered so far, with four goals and one assist this season. Aaronson being a key part of this team was unexpected, as it looked like the American was on his way out of the club after how last season ended. The 24-year old was one of a group of players who decided to leave the summer Daniel Farke arrived as coach, because they did not want to play in the Championship.

With the January transfer window fast approaching, let’s take a look at some midfielders the club could sign.

Manchester City midfielder James McAtee has been linked with Leeds United over the past few weeks. After being promised a bigger first team role by Pep Guardiola this summer, the midfielder is yet to start a Premier League game. Interest in the 22-year old is high, with Premier League clubs and Champions League clubs interested on taking him on loan in January. McAtee’s versatility is impressive as he can play as a number 10, out wide and even as a forward, like he did on loan at Sheffield United last season. There are reports that Manchester City could consider selling him on a permanent deal if a club is willing to pay around a £20million fee for him.

Evan Ferguson

Even though the Brighton youngster is a striker, Evan Ferguson has played in a system similar to what Daniel Farke employed last season. Georginio Rutter and Joel Piroe interchanged roles when they were on the pitch which made it hard for defences to know who to mark. Ferguson has experience playing that role, and could be brought in to unlock Piroe. The dutch striker has not looked at his best playing alongside Brenden Aaronson, a move for Evan Ferguson could boost the attack in January.
