Ahead of the January transfer window, we take a look at one player Leeds United need to sign to change the course of their season.
Going into this season, Leeds were going to be without Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter in attack. The duo joined Premier League sides during the summer transfer window. The duo were among the best Leeds United players during last season’s campaign.
Crysencio Summerville won the PFA player of the season for the Championship after scoring 19 goals and providing 9 assists in the league. Georginio Rutter also had 15 assists and scored six goals. The duo contributed to 49 goals last year, and their attacking play was even better than the numbers suggested.

Daniel Farke’s attacking options going into this season included: Manor Solomon, Dan James, Wilfried Gnonto, Brenden Aaronson, Largie Ramazani, Joel Piroe, Patrick Bamford, Joe Gelhardt and Mateo Joseph. Solomon and Ramazani were the new faces this summer, while the rest of the attackers have been in the team for a while.
After 15 games in the championship, we can give a fair assessment of the attack so far. Joel Piroe has scored six goals already but he looks far different from last season when he had Rutter behind him. Brenden Aaronson has also chipped in with four goals, but has rarely provided that creative spark this season. Dan James and Wilfried Gnonto are fine and contribute well, with Gnonto the one with the potential to reach a high level.
The current team could do with Ryan Kent. The 28-year old has provided 10 or more goal contributions in four of his last five full seasons. He has also excelled in Europe which caught the eye of many big clubs. Kent didn’t work out at Fenerbahçe but a chance to move to Leeds United would revitalize him. At his best he might be better than any winger in the Championship this season. Leeds United need that spark, and Kent can provide. There were so many games he won for Rangers just by taking the ball and dribbling to create. An ability that not many of Leeds’ current options excel at.
A short term deal till the end of the season would suit all parties. The prospect of Premier League football next year for Kent would ultimately seal the deal.
