Leeds United are set to lose one key player in the coming months.
The club had a lot of players leave during the summer transfer window. Leeds lost the Championship playoff final to Southampton in May. Missing out on Premier League football was the reason some of the key stars left. Archie Gray joined Spurs, Crysencio Summerville joined West Ham, and Georginio Rutter joined Brighton.
Other players left Elland Road because their time at the club had come to an end. Luke Ayling, Robin Koch, Ian Poveda and Cody Drameh all left on free transfers. Poveda and Drameh left the club after failing to break into the first team.
Daniel Farke has done a great job of shaping the club since he arrived, he made it clear the players he wanted to work with and the others had to find a way out of the club.

Now, Leeds are in a difficult situation ahead of January. Junior Firpo’s contract is up next summer, and he will be free to negotiate with other teams from January 1st. The 28-year old has made it clear that he is open to leave the club. Firpo arrived from Barcelona in 2021. Firpo had a tough start to life in England as he was out for the first few weeks. His injuries and fitness issues kept him out of the first team, under multiple coaches. Firpo only managed 33 Premier League starts in his first two seasons at the club. He managed to turn it around when Leeds were relegated; he played 26 games last season and had seven assists.
With Firpo on his way out of the club, we look at the best two options to replace him.
Dennis Cirkin
The Sunderland left back has been one of the most consistent performers in the Championship. Dennis Cirkin has similarities to Firpo; he loves to attack the box and is a decent crosser. What makes him a better long term prospect is his defensive game. According to Fbref, Cirkin is top 10 in the league for tackles won and interceptions this season. His price tag could be the only issue, he has been reportedly valued at £15million.
Daniel Svensson
The 22-year old left back has been on the radar of Juventus and Liverpool, and it is very easy to see why. Daniel Svensson is an all round defender, he can attack and create as well as defend. The FC Nordsjaelland left back finished last season with the second most assists in the Danish Superliga.
Both targets are young, and most importantly possess the same attacking instinct as Junior Firpo, but are way better defensive players. Leeds United need to act fast and get one of them to the club.
