‘There’s unrest, he is not in their plans’ – Leeds United handed fresh boost in January transfer pursuit

Leeds United have made a solid start on their return to the Premier League this season. However, the club are preparing to bring in a few more fresh faces when the transfer window opens again in January to complete the squad.

Daniel Farke is pleased with the start his side have made this season, but he is aware that there are gaps in the squad that could get exposed towards the final stretches of the campaign.

The Leeds manager is keen to plug those holes in his squad and ensure that they are ready for a tough battle in the second half of the campaign.

The club are drawing up plans for the winter transfer window, and there is a clear idea which area of the squad needs strengthening for the latter half of the season.

Leeds United handed a fresh boost in the pursuit of Lorenzo Pellegrini

The 29-year-old attacking midfielder is in the final year of his contract at Roma, and his future at the club is under the scanner ahead of the winter window.

Leeds have been monitoring his situation, and he is one of the two Serie A attacking midfielders the club are considering snapping up in January.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has admitted that Roma could be keen to move him on in January, as it would be the last time they could get a fee from his sale.

He also added that there is real unrest behind the scenes between the club and the player, as he is not part of their long-term plans at the Stadio Olimpico.

“Potentially, if he was on Leeds’ list previously, I’m sure they’ll have continued to monitor his situation at Roma”, O’Rourke told Football Insider.

“It’s an interesting moment because he’s in the final year of his contract at Roma, and it does seem that Roma could be willing to let him move on.

“This January will probably be their last opportunity to cash in on Pellegrini, and again, it looks like he doesn’t really figure in their plans going forward for whatever reason.

“There’s been a bit of unrest between him and the club’s fans as well. Sure, if a decent offer was to come in for Pellegrini, it’s something they were considering in January.”

Leeds also want a winger in January

Apart from an attacking midfielder, Leeds also want to sign a winger in the winter transfer window as part of their plans.

Fulham’s Harry Wilson has continued to remain on their shortlist despite suggestions that he could end up signing a new contract at Craven Cottage.

Leeds hope that they can convince the Welshman to join the club in the winter window after coming close to signing him on transfer deadline day last summer.
