Leeds improved from last weeks thrashing at Old Trafford with a 2-2 draw against Everton at Elland Road. However, TalkSport pundit Gabby Agbonlahor still has major concerns about Leeds going forward.
He stated that Leeds “don’t want to finish higher than last season.” He says this because “you can’t be playing how they’re playing.” He once again drew attention to Leeds’ defensive frailties, admitting “Leeds are a pleasure to watch but they can’t defend how they defend. They’ll concede more than last season!”
Agbonlahor fails to apply the relevant context, as Leeds have been without their best defender Diego Llorente in their opening 2 games. Llorente missed the first half of last season through injury, but once he become an established starter Leeds improved massively in defence and went on to finish 9th.
Leeds have improved in personnel at the back, with Junior Firpo replacing Gjanni Alioski, and they will undoubtedly play in the same style as last season. Therefore, it seems baseless to theorise that Leeds will concede more than they did last season. In fact, Leeds had 0 points from these 2 fixtures last season but this time around they have 1, which would suggest they have actually improved from last season.
