”They’ll pick them off for fun” – Paul Merson issues blunt Leeds verdict ahead of Bournemouth game

Leeds United will be hoping to continue their form after a big win over Wolverhampton Wanderers last week. The Whites will now be up against a difficult Bournemouth side on Saturday.

Daniel Farke’s men will be facing a Cherries side who have not lost a game since the opening game of the season. Andoni Iraola’s side have conceded just one goal in their last three games.

Leeds will have home advantage once again; their last two games at Elland Road saw them beat Everton and hold Newcastle United to a draw. Hopefully another good result will follow this weekend.

Ahead of Saturday’s game, Paul Merson has already given his prediction on what will happen in the game. According to him, Leeds will only stand a chance if the sit back and defend. But he says the Elland Road crowd will force them to play on the front foot and cause them to lose.

“This game should be a good watch. Bournemouth are flying and Leeds had an incredible result.

“The problem for Leeds is that their fans will turn in the hope that they will take the game to Bournemouth.

“If Leeds show respect and keep things tight at the back, they may have a chance. But they’re at home.

“I’ve been impressed with Leeds at home this season, but I think Bournemouth will pick them off for fun.”

Merson predicted a 3-1 win for Bournemouth.

Daniel Farke has spoken on approach to games

On the topic of how Leeds could approach the game, Daniel Farke has said that mixing it up can help get the result. He used how the Whites played in the win over Wolves to explain this:

“Always important not to lose your DNA.

“In the first-half at Wolves we started well, conceded the goal but it is important to keep going and believe in your approach.

“I said at half-time we didn’t need to get nervous just because we’re in the lead.

“Take it as normal, don’t be scared and think we have to defend.

“You want to keep going and dominate, try to win the second-half, but sometimes you have to accept because of the quality of the opponent, you have to concentrate a bit more on defending.”
