Leeds United earned a valuable point from their trip to Brentford as Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored in a fourth consecutive Premier League game earlier today.
The Whites sit 17th in the league table, three points clear of the relegation zone, and managed to earn a good point away at Brentford, who have been strong at home this season.
Leeds’ away form coming into the game was horrendous, with six defeats in seven in the league this season. However, they managed to repair some of that damage with a well-deserved point after a 1-1 draw at Brentford.
Daniel Farke’s men again showed that they have the quality and the character to have a good chance of surviving in the Premier League in their first season back in the top tier.
Jamie Redknapp stunned by Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s goal for Leeds United
Calvert-Lewin has hit form at the right time for Leeds, and his goal today was brilliant, not only for its execution but also for the timing of it, as the Whites needed it.
Wilfried Gnonto produced a sumptuous cross. However, Redknapp conceded that the Leeds striker’s head was beautiful to watch because of the way he executed it and found the exact spot in the goal where it could not have been saved.
He also feels it’s a fantastic point for Leeds, given how good Brentford have been this season.
Redknapp said on Sky Sports News: “Gnonto’s cross was fabulous, and we talk a lot about goals from set-pieces, outside the box, long-range strikes, but there is a thing of beauty about a great header.
“When someone gets up early like that and has that hang time like Michael Jordan and guides it into the corner, it is a lovely thing to see.
“It’s a great goal from Calvert-Lewin and a great point for Leeds. Daniel Farke will be delighted with that. He made substitutions, as he did against Liverpool, and they came off again.
“It’s always a great point when you come away from home, especially against a team potentially fighting for relegation later on, too, who have a great home record.”
Calvert-Lewin is emerging as the team’s MVP
Eyebrows were raised when Leeds signed Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer last summer. He has had a few injury-riddled seasons, and it was a signing that came under major scrutiny.
His lean patch during the season raised further doubts, and everyone was convinced that Leeds’ gamble was going to backfire.
However, the 28-year-old has proved in recent weeks that he is still good enough to score goals consistently in the Premier League if he gets the service.
The former Everton man is excelling because Daniel Farke has finally found a system where the striker has players around him to support him.
Leeds just need to ensure that Calvert-Lewin stays fit as he is likely to score the goals that keep them in the Premier League.
