‘This is the first time…’ – bold Tottenham claim delivered on talkSPORT before Leeds clash

Leeds United are all but safe now after last week’s win over Burnley, which moved them to 43 points, putting them in a strong position to stay in the Premier League.

Daniel Farke has tried to keep everyone grounded until survival is officially confirmed, although Leeds could secure their top-flight status before next Monday’s trip to Tottenham.

Even so, the match in north London could still be hugely important. A win for Spurs may be enough to guarantee their safety, but if Leeds take points from the game, Tottenham could find themselves dragged back into the relegation scrap.

Spurs also boosted their chances in a big way over the weekend, with victory at Aston Villa helping them climb out of the bottom three, and there is now real confidence around the north London club’s ability to stay up.

TalkSPORT pundit goes bold on Tottenham ahead of Leeds clash

Leeds may be mathematically safe before they take on Tottenham on Monday night, but a lot is still riding for the north London club in this big game.

A result for West Ham against Arsenal on Sunday puts the pressure back on Tottenham. However, Dean Saunders, who was on talkSPORT Breakfast this morning, feels that after the Aston Villa game last weekend, he can’t see Spurs going down this season.

He insisted that Roberto De Zerbi seems to be getting the best out of a squad ravaged by injuries since his arrival.

However, the Welshman is worried about West Ham and believes the Hammers are likely to get relegated from the Premier League.

Saunders said, “This is the first time I thought Spurs are going to stay up after that game.

“And the way West Ham played, I thought it’s West Ham who are going down.

“Since he took over, he seems to have got his message over.”

The Whites now hold the relegation key

Leeds are virtually safe now, and their Premier League survival could be mathematically confirmed before they face Tottenham next Monday night.

That leaves them in a position to have a major say in which of the two London clubs are relegated.

West Ham will be hoping Leeds maintain their intensity against Spurs, knowing a result in north London could keep the survival battle alive.

But Leeds could also deal the decisive blow to the Hammers’ hopes on the final day of the season, when the two sides meet at the London Stadium.
