With Leeds set to battle Catalans Dragons this weekend, we thought we’d take a look at three current Catalans players we’d like to see at Leeds one day.
The Dragons have been one of the top teams in Super League in recent years and have finished above Leeds every season since 2017.
In that period, they’ve picked up two pieces of silverware winning the Challenge Cup Final in 2018 before winning the League Leaders’ Shield last year on route to a first ever Grand Final appearance and a second Old Trafford appearance in 2022 isn’t out of the question with Catalans currently third in the table.
So, they have plenty of quality but which three players would it be good to see in blue and amber one day?
Arthur Mourgue
There is perhaps no player in Super League who is as similar to Leeds legend Rob Burrow as much as Arthur Mourgue is. The electric Frenchman can play fullback, in the halves at hooker or as an impact sub.
With great speed, brilliant footwork and a good skillset, he’s the ideal player for modern rugby league and the pace at which the modern game is played.
Plus, the way Rohan Smith has Leeds attacking, Mourgue could be unstoppable.
Joe Chan
Quite clearly highly rated, the fact Melbourne Storm have poached him for next season tells you everything you need to know about him.
A real Warrior with a strong frame, plenty of power and a bit of pace, he could burst through any defence and make plenty of metres.
Granted the backrow isn’t a position Leeds desperately need to strengthen right now, but players like him never go out of fashion and a young man he would fit nicely into the project Leeds are building.
Jordan Dezaria
Just like fellow countryman Justin Sangare who is already Leeds bound, Jordan Dezaria is a powerful prop ideal for bringing off the bench and charging at tired defences.
With most Leeds fans accepting that another prop is needed before next season, Dezaria is a player I’m sure most would be happy to see join the club at some stage in the near future.
A powerful runner with great experience due to his time at Catalans, I’d certainly like to see him in Blue and Amber one day.
