Three current Leeds United players who have failed to live up to the hype

Before every season fans highlight the players they believe will be the stars of the new campaign. We surround them with hype and pin our hopes on them. But too often they fail to live up to the expectations on them and have a disappointing season.

Leeds have impressed this term with almost their entire squad pulling their weight in a fantastic return to the Premier League. But they can’t all be superb.

So, here’s three Leeds United players who haven’t lived up to the hype.

Rodrigo

Rodrigo was one of Leeds’ big summer signings and promised to add a little bit of X Factor to the Mighty Whites. But things have yet to get going for the Spanish international as he struggles with injuries. He’s even been taken off after entering the frame as a substitute himself. He has looked good at times but only has 3 goals to his name whilst only mustering 1 assist.

Kiko Casilla

When Kiko Casilla arrived at Elland Road he was seen as the answer to Leeds’ goalkeeping conundrum. A modern keeper confident enough to come out of his area and act as a sweeper whilst also being good with his feet. However, various scandals and errors have stifled his Leeds career and he was quickly replaced by Illan Meslier.

Pablo Hernandez

Over the last couple of years, Hernandez has been Leeds’ most important player. He was fantastic in 18/19 and 19/20 and was at the hub of everything good for the Whites. He scored some cracking goals and engineered chances galore for his teammates. However, things haven’t got going back in the Premier League for Pablo. The 35 year old has only made 13 league appearances for Leeds this season and the vast majority have come from the bench. I expected more from him this term and even predicted he’d be Leeds’ key man again but it wasn’t to be.
