Leeds United have had some classic players during the Premier League but they’ve seen a fair share of them slip through their fingers.
We’ve seen future Premier League winners depart Leeds United leaving the Mighty Whites ruing their departure.
So, here’s three players Leeds should never have let go.
Kasper Schmeichel
Son of arguably the Premier League’s greatest ever keeper, Schmeichel has gone onto become the perfect modern shot stopper since leaving Elland Road. The Danish international has been linked with moves to the likes of Manchester United and Spurs in recent years but has also forged Leicester into one of the biggest teams in the league even helping the Foxes to the Premier League title in 2016. The Leicester skipper is a great leader and had he stayed at Leeds he may have helped ignite a fairytale in Yorkshire instead of at the King Power.
Robert Snodgrass
You could say there was little Leeds could do to stop the departure of Robert Snodgrass. However, this was one of many departures Leeds United simply had to avoid to stand any real chance at promotion. As Jonny Howson, Luciano Becchio and others fled to Norwich and Premier League football, Snodgrass followed suit leaving Leeds without the quality required to mount a promotion push. Had they kept these quality stars and the likes of Jermain Beckford and Fabian Delph promotion to the top flight may have come some 10 years ago. I’ve picked Snodgrass ahead of the other departures down to the quality he’s since shown in the Premier League especially at West Ham.
Eric Cantona
After helping Leeds United to the last Old Division 1 title, he left to usher in an era of dominance at Old Trafford. Had Leeds United kept the talismanic Frenchman they could’ve added to their Division 1 title in the years after. Instead, they had to watch on as their former star spurred their biggest rivals onto success after success.
