Three players who will definitely leave Leeds United this summer

Leeds United are having a superb season despite it being their first in the top flight since 2004. Their players have impressed with the likes of Kalvin Phillips earning rave reviews and international call-ups. When summer rolls around United will be hoping to strengthen their squad rather than see their best players picked off. Nonetheless, every transfer window players inevitably leave whether that’s because the club wants to bring in someone else or the player has received a better offer. So, here’s the three players who will definitely leave Leeds this summer.

Kiko Casilla

When the Spanish keeper was brought to Elland Road, fans were excited. He’d played for Real Madrid and Spain. He’d even claimed three Champions League medals. He came in January to help Leeds’ promotion bid. At first he looked like everything Marcelo Bielsa needed him to be. Capable of with the ball at his feet and a decent shot stopper, it looked as though he could take Leeds to the top flight. However, since his howler in the Play-Off defeat to Derby in 2019 things haven’t gone according to plan. He was banned for an alleged racist comment and gradually phased out of the team in favour of Illan Mesiler. Things got worse in the FA Cup this year where he wasn’t quite at his best and conceded three goals as Leeds crashed out against Crawley. Not so beloved by the Leeds fans now and with a hefty wage, United will look to move him on this summer.

Ezgjan Alioski

It has been known for some time now that Alioski will likely leave Elland Road soon enough. Despite decreeing in December that he would like to stay, a failure to reach an agreement over a new deal looks like it will see him leave at the end of the season with reports suggesting he asked his agent to arrange a move way from West Yorkshire. In January he very nearly departed the club in favour of a move to Galatasaray. That fell through but he is now able to agree a pre-contract deal with foreign clubs. Having been a fan favourite during his time at Leeds, supporters will no doubt be sad to see him go.

Pablo Hernandez

Hernandez has been at United since 2017 and was key to their promotion last season. On many of occasions he looked like Leeds’ best player down to his superb passing and his ability to take a shot on from range. It was expected that he would be one of Leeds’ stars this season but – perhaps down to his age – he has struggled to make the impression expected of him. The Spaniard has been forced to make 10 appearances off the bench this term meaning he’s starting more games on the bench  than usual and has failed to register his first Premier League goal for the Whites. Desiring more starting appearances and with Leeds looking for a different direction in midfield, I fancy him to move on in the summer.
